Felony Murder Reporting Project
Documenting the impact of felony murder laws in the US through investigative and data journalism
In collaboration with Zealous and the Yale Investigative Reporting Lab, we launched an online hub that spotlights personal stories and data analysis, exploring the far-reaching effects of felony murder nationwide. Complementing Sarah Stillman’s New Yorker article on felony murder, the Felony Murder Reporting Project sheds light on the personal experiences of those impacted by the policy. It also delves deep into state data to educate the public and encourage more coverage of this legal doctrine at national and local levels.
UNCOVERING DATA
We worked with data analysts who researched and gathered thousands of cases to show as much of a comprehensive picture of felony murder that was possible. As a result of their research, we’re able to display data analysis with factors including age, race, gender, and more, across a number of states.
